The Ministry of Roads and Highways listed some fifteen roads started and completed during the first term of office of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The release comes on the back of arguments by the opposition NDC that government has repackaged uncompleted old roads as new roads for Akufo-Addo’s second term.
But the Ministry of Roads and Highways says it wants to set the records straight on some false claims that came out after the press briefing held by the Minority NDC in Parliament.
Reacting to the claim that no road was commenced and completed within the first term of Nana Akufo Addo’s presidency, the Ministry has brought a box of evidence to show that fifteen roads were constructed between 2017 and 2020.]
In addition, the Ministry says the claim that the ministry and its Agencies have only 147 Engineers and for that reason, road projects are not properly supervised is completely false.
“Highway Authority has a total of 173 Engineers across the country, Department of Urban Roads has 86 and Department of feeder roads has 143.
“The total number of Engineers at the Ministry and its agencies is 406. This excludes engineers at the District Assemblies. For projects supervision, the Ministry also engages the services of Consultants,” the statement emphasised.
