Silvio Berlusconi has died. The knight was 86 years old and was ill with leukemia and was hospitalized at San Raffaele for checkups.
Silvio Berlusconi has died , even he who seemed immortal and who had many times jokingly denied the news of his passing to the better life circulated for fun or out of ‘hate and malice’ has gone away, leaving everyone speechless, since his last visit to the San Raffaele in Milan was presented as a check-up visit.
He was 86 years old and from 1994 to today he has marked Italian politics like no other. His was a descent into the field when as a rich and successful entrepreneur in the television sector he chose to side with Gianfranco Fini who was running for Mayor of Rome against Francesco Rutelli. The support of a missino earned him the nickname of Black Knight . Since then many others would have arrived: the caiman, the dwarf and those linked to his procedural events and to the famous ad personam laws.
Berlusconi had understood that after the clean hands investigation there was no party to which the moderate electorate could rely and had worked for the creation of a liberal-democratic container that would replace the Christian Democrats. A few months passed and Forza Italia was born, a party that even changed the language of Italian politics.
Berlusconi was prime minister three times and like Napoleon he knew glory and dust. How can we forget that time when under the pressure of the spread that rose uncontrollably he was forced to resign while crowds celebrated that unexpected political transition.
He has been accused of everything: from being the instigator of the mafia massacres to having started a prostitution ring . He reported a conviction for tax evasion, he experienced the humiliation of probationary assignment to social services, while the vast majority of investigations against him ended up with nothing, starting with the Rubi affair .
Those who loved him considered him a martyr of his courage, because it took courage to leave the glories of a rich life as an entrepreneur to get bogged down in the miseries of politics.
Leave the center-right in the government, while those who mocked him like the former French prime minister and the former German chancellor have other problems to think about. He was editor of printed paper and television, president of two football teams , Milan and Monza, with which he won everything on a global level.
With him ends an era, an era not only political, but also social and cultural. No one has divided public opinion like him and probably even his disappearance will not be able to bring everyone to agreement as demonstrated by the tears of some and the celebrations of others on social media.
