Bonwoma generally refers to all types of animal skins that have been carefully dried and cured and is placed on the floor as a carpet for ceremonial chairs and for stools to be placed on.

The skins are made from two types of animals, the lion and the elephant. For the Gold Stool, the hwɛdɔmtea chair is placed on an elephant ear while the Asantehene’s stools and chairs are usually placed on lion skins.

The Sikadwa, Hwedɔm, Asipim and Akronkromfi chairs are not to be placed directly on the floor because of the sacred nature and for that matter has to be placed on these skins.
