Yara Gambirasio, new chapter. At the center of the case is Massimo Bossetti. There would be contradictions in the reports, but not only that: a new suspect appears for misdirection and procedural fraud on DNA.

“We have asked that he will not be allowed  to these finds, not now or ever, not for review or for anything else.” The statement by the Bergamo prosecutor Letizia Ruggeri made to the Venice prosecutor’s office and contained in the last act of the defense of Massimo Bossetti, definitively sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of the little girl, will soon be evaluated by the investigating judge Alberto Scaramuzza –

the same one who had requested further information on the magistrate under investigation for fraud in the trial and misdirection – but in the media it has now rekindled attention on the DNA samples which the defense was only able to view last May 13th, now ten years after the genetic match with Ignoto 1.

Yara Gambirasio was a thirteen-year-old gymnast from Brembate di Sopra, who disappeared on 26 November 2010, then found dead on 26 February 2011 in a field in Chignolo d’Isola. Her body had been stabbed, she had suffered a head injury, she had a deep wound on her neck, and at least six stab wounds. Initially, the trail of Mohammed Fikri, a Moroccan worker at the Mapello construction site, was followed, where the molecular dogs had identified the last traces of the girl. He was arrested and then released due to misunderstanding a sentence in Arabic. Recognition through DNA In 2011 and 2014, male DNA was detected on Yara’s briefs and leggings and on textile fibers belonging to a modified white Iveco Daily van, wheelbase 3450 .

The vehicle was around the gym where Yara was last spotted. Through eight different DNA kits she traced back to the parents of the one who was identified as “Unknown 1”. Following some clues, in a roadside check using a breathalyzer, Massimo Bossetti’s DNA was taken and the correspondence of his nuclear DNA with that found on the victim was verified. The dynamics of the crime According to the reconstruction of the investigators, Yara had gotten into the car of the murderer and had been threatened.

She was then taken to an isolated place, tortured, stabbed and stunned with three blows to the head to die of cold, almost certainly after having fled, in a field that was ten kilometers from her house. The arrest and life sentence of Massimo Bossetti On 16 June 2014 Massimo Bossetti was arrested.

At the time he was 44 years old, he was the father of three children and a bricklayer from Mapello with no criminal record. He immediately declared himself innocent but on 26 February 2015 the Bergamo Prosecutor’s Office declared him the sole guilty party, requesting a trial and officially closing the investigation. The defense contested the genetic evidence for the lack of Bossetti’s mitochondrial DNA in the genetic trace examined and the presumed non-repeatability of the ANS test, performed in his absence.

On 1 July 2016, the Assize Court of Bergamo sentenced Bossetti to life imprisonment for murder with the aggravating circumstance of cruelty and revoked the man’s parental responsibility for his three children. The main motive would have been sexual advances but how the man managed to hook up the victim remained unknown.
