Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

Nsumankwaafoɔ

The relationship between Ɔpemsoɔ Osei Tutu (the king) and Kɔmfo Anokye (a priest, spiritual advisor, and later, chief of Agona) is well documented by historians of Asante history.

Nsumanfieso are rooms where regalia items used by Nsumankwaafoɔ (priests, physicians, medical corps, and spiritual advisers) are kept. A total of seven chiefs constitute the Nsumankwaafoɔ Fekuo with the Nsumankwaahene as the presiding chief. They are Afrimfoɔhene, Afrɛfoɔhene, Afrɛbuahene, Domfɛ Asuamefoɔhene, Pemsanhene, and Nnwontofoɔhene.

Samanka

Samanka is carried on the head by Samanka Kɔmfoɔ (Samanka Priest). It is the first item in a procession to spiritually sweep or clean the route, drive away evil spirits and neutralize all evil intentions by adversaries. It contains a mixture of herbs, animal horns, and nsɛbɛ (talismans). The carrier is assisted by two men carrying bodua (flywhisks) since the former is possessed. The samanka leads all kinds of processions, celebratory or those of grief. Two assistants holding flywhisks walk left and right of the carrier.

Apunnuro

Apunnuro is a combination of seventy-seven herbal plants that are burned (as incense) in a room to spiritually fortify the Asantehene’s physical body against “bad eyes” and bad people during court or state ceremonies.

It’s basically a sacred area
The Nsumankwaafiemu and sankwaase area at Manhyia is a place that we hardly even allow the general public to pass.

Simply because at Nsumankwaafie mu for instance, all the Nsumankwaa items are kept there.

Moreover, there are a lot of spiritual purification that we also do there for Santehene which are not made known public. Nonetheless, our services at Manhyia involves only men apart from the various traditional priestesses who are under our jurisdiction.
And most of them are secret that cannot be shared on the platform but basically a sanctified place of secrecy. The ones that are brought into public are the bodua, apunnro, gyata nwoma, samanka and puduo.
